Principal's Message

Dear Sherwood Heights Families,

At Sherwood Heights Elementary, we believe that education is a journey we take together. You are your child’s first and most influential teacher, and we are honored to partner with you in nurturing their growth, curiosity, and success.

When school and home work in harmony, our students feel supported, confident, and ready to learn. One of the most impactful ways we can strengthen this partnership is by prioritizing consistent school attendance.

Why Every Day Matters at Sherwood Heights

In elementary school, every day is a building block. When a student is in class, they aren’t just learning facts; they are building social skills, developing routines, and participating in hands-on activities that are difficult to replicate at home.

  • Academic Momentum: Reading and math concepts build on each other daily. Missing even one or two days a month can create "gaps" in learning that become harder to fill over time.

  • The Power of Belonging: Being present helps our students bond with their peers and teachers, fostering the strong sense of community we value so much here.

  • Life-Long Habits: Showing up on time and being present prepares our children for the responsibilities of middle school, high school, and beyond.

Our Commitment to You

We understand that life happens—illnesses occur and family emergencies arise. Our goal isn’t perfection, but consistency. If your family is facing challenges that make it difficult to get your child to school, please reach out to us. Whether it’s transportation hurdles, health concerns, or morning routine struggles, we are here to listen and help find solutions. We are a team, and we want to support you.

How You Can Help

  • Establish a Routine: Consistent bedtimes and morning habits make it easier for children to get out the door ready to learn.

  • Schedule Wisely: Whenever possible, try to book doctor’s appointments or family trips during school breaks.

  • Keep Us in the Loop: If your child must be absent, please let the front office know as soon as possible.

Thank you for your continued trust and for everything you do to make Sherwood Heights such a vibrant place to learn. We look forward to seeing your child’s smiling face in the classroom tomorrow!

Warmly,

Mr Michael Davis, Principal
